The Kiss by Robert Doisneau

Robert Doisneau
Doisneau’s work is very unique; he captured the streets of Paris in the 1930’s. The picture I have chosen to critique is Doisneau’s most well recognized work Kiss by the Town Hall. This picture is of two lovers in the busy streets of Paris in an embrace kissing, this is not a staged photography, and there is movement in the background.  The photograph is in black and white, there are textures in the foreground and there is a focused person on the left that has glasses, which can take the attention away from the two lovers. The couple seems to be going to work; it seems like an “I’ll see you later” kind of motion. Because the picture is in black and white, the man’s hand seems to contrast against the woman’s coat.
This photograph seems a little ill organized, there is a busy foreground for example there is a chair in front of the man’s hand making it appear that he is holding a briefcase, which might give the judgment that he is headed off to work, or to some type of business.  Another thing that could have been better is if there were not any clear people in the background, there is a man, with glasses and a hat on the left and there is half of women on the right near his shoulder as he is kissing the woman in his embrace. I however think that Doisneau worked with what he had, and made the best of the technology, the emphasis on the couple could have been better. The picture of Doisneau’s subjects is centered, but the attention goes from foreground to the lovers to what surrounds them. Proportion is even, there is also repetition of where some background is blurred and some foreground is blurred.
The mood that this picture “The famous kiss” gives the viewers some anxiety, the picture is too busy. I think that Doisneau wanted to capture intimate young lovers in Paris, which the concept is still there, but I think it couldn't have been any better. The photograph seems realistic, there is movement, texture, and most importantly mistakes.

Boise State University Service

To serve the local
My name is Liliana Hernandez, I was born in California, moved to Idaho when I was about fourteen, graduated with a class of forty-five. I am a current member of ONE and O.E.L.A. (Organization of Latin American Students). O.E.L.A. is a group of undergraduate students that help around the community informing minorities of the opportunities that college has to offer. ONE is also a club, this club is a nationally recognized organization that provided informational insight of not just community issues but also raising awareness through informing the public.
ONE has helped me become aware of local and national issues that can seem minor now but could have an impact on society. Advocating things like world hunger and vaccination in Africa seems to be our next club goal.
The members of OELA, have been some of my closest friends freshmen year, we all have different backgrounds, and different majors. Graduating from such a small class I felt a little overwhelmed coming to Boise State University, however; joining this small group of people has geared me toward becoming more of a leader and a learner. Being part of this Club has changes my perspective on education, being the minority can be intimidating, but what I have learned are some amazing communication and leadership skills that can be beneficial. A project that is done every year is DFT, (Dream for Tomorrow) where we as a club bring high school students to tour the campus and get informed of opportunities. This last year’s numbers of students that participated was the most that we have had, it was a great experience. Thought the project I learned to speak and guide a group of students.
My contribution to the group has currently been to contribute ideas for upcoming fundraisers. In the upcoming elections I plan to run as an officer, and hopefully I get the position. The friends that I met here in both groups are amazing, and we all hope to keep DFT running for a long time.

Like Fine, and Then it Kinda Sucks

It's not east waking up ever morning and being away from home, four hours to be exact, but that's what makes the experience all in a way better. Sure I miss my siblings and parents, but I know that when I graduate that life will be better, I will feel accomplished. Something that I have learned thought my new educational experience is to not take school for granted. Education is so important sometimes regret all the time I spent being foolish and wish I would have taken advantage of all the opportunities I had when I was younger.
